Teaching students the “fundamentals” along with career-related skills is believed to be the most important job of schools, a new national survey has found.
The survey, conducted for research and advocacy group People for Education, found that Canadians want public schools to focus on reading and math as well as job-readiness, but at the same time they want students to learn “to be good citizens by encouraging them to listen to and respectfully discuss different points of view, including ones they disagree with.”
