Several First Nations are asking a federal court to weigh in on whether a deal struck on a carbon capture project was unconstitutional and violated Canada’s duty to consult.

Two weeks ago, Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre met in an apparent attempt to find common ground on the government’s legislative agenda. “My message to him is to work with us,” Poilievre told reporters afterwards. Perhaps Carney took that message more literally than Poilievre intended.

An association of federal judges is asking the government to refer a dispute related to their compensation directly to the Supreme Court, according to a letter obtained by Radio-Canada.
