A newborn infected with measles in utero has passed away — the first death in the province related to the disease since an outbreak began seven months ago, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says.
The case has renewed calls for the government to better promote vaccinations and step up efforts to address the growing number of infections — which has now hit more than 2,000, including at least six “congenital” cases, meaning the disease was present at birth.
